先日同僚の実家にお邪魔してきました。緑溢れるPunalurという所です。友人との待ち合わせ場所まではバス、そこからは彼の車に乗せてもらいました。彼の奥さんと、日本人の友達2人の合計5人で向かいました。
I had a chance to visit my colleague's parents house. His house was at a place called Punalur, northeast to the center of Trivandrum. Totally five of us went, including his wife and two of my Japanese friends.
トリバンドラムの中心地からは2時間から2時間半くらいでしょうか？緑いっぱい、空気が澄んだ場所でした。
It took around two and a half hours from Trivandrum city. It was a place abundant of nature, with the scent of grasses and soil all the way.
友人の実家にはカレーリーフ、ジャックフルーツ（残念ながらお邪魔した時にはシーズンが終了していた！）、マンゴー（こちらもシーズン終了！）の木などに加え、エレファントヤム（こちらでポピュラーな芋の一種）やターメリックを見ることが出来ました。
The front and back yard had many fruit trees, such as, mango, jackfruit and other plants like curryleaf and elephant yam.
ターメリックを見せてくれました。
He showed me turmeric too!
とても珍しい胡蝶蘭の一種。真ん中にハト（dove）がいるように見える、その名も「Dove Orchid」です。名前まんまだ！珍しい品種なので値段が張るそうです。
This is a rare orchid to see called the "dove orchid." The center of this orchid looks like a dove.
作業員を雇って、ゴムも作っているそう。
They have people producing rubber.
この機会でゴムを伸ばします。
Using this machine, you flatten the rubber.
生命力がすこぶる強そうな木の根。ラピュタに出てきそうです。
I like taking pictures of the root of the trees.
井戸の側面に生えていたいた植物。この植物、こっちで良く見かけるのですが、凄く雰囲気があって好きなんです。なんてことない雑草だと思うのですが、柔らかそうで控えめな感じが癒されるんです。日光を浴びて更に柔らかそうでした。
This grass, I happen to find everywhere here in India, greeted me from the wall of the well. It seems to be some kind of weed that is rather annoyed to be grown, but this is one of the plant I love to see. In this picture, it looks fluffier wearing the sunshine.
お母さん作の美味しい昼食も頂きました！お隣のカルナータカ州の都市、マンガロールで有名な調理法で作られたの魚カレーも頂きました。
We had an amazing meal cooked by my colleague's mother. The fish curry was prepared in Mangalore style.
大好きなラッサムもー！有難い！
And of course my so loved favorite, rasam!!

歩いてすぐの川にも連れて行ってもらいました。皆で足まで浸かって川の中の魚を見たりしながら歩きました。友人は、向こう岸にあるバス停までの近道であったこの川を毎日渡りながら学校に通ったそうです。見かけによらず野生児であることを知った一日でした。
After the meal, we had a walk to the river nearby, There were tiny fishes everywhere. My colleague used to walk across this river everyday which is a shortcut to the bus stop going for school. So my biggest discovery was he was a wild child which I could never imagine!!
